Through the day this is a specialty coffee place, not a café that happens to serve coffee. Two grinders run from eight in the morning. El Rosal from Colombia is the house coffee, smooth and balanced, with honey, orange, plum and toffee. The second grinder rotates so we can keep exploring origins; right now it carries Sidamo Taferi Kela from Ethiopia, floral and citrus with brown sugar, peach and cherry. Espresso and filter, and both coffees to take home as whole beans. If you cannot decide between them, ask a barista to brew you a cup first. Until five you can sit here with a laptop and we keep tables set aside for exactly that.
From five the grinders go quiet and the counter turns to cocktails. Classics made properly, a short list of our own, and a few things that only exist while an ingredient is in season. Laptops go away, the terrace fills, and most evenings that is all it is: somewhere to have a good drink in a well-made space. Some evenings there is an exhibition, a dinner or a concert running through the same floor, and the drinks keep coming alongside it. We are cashless, so cards only, and no reservation is needed to come in.
