Two Lives in Music: Eddie Chacon and John Carroll Kirby

Music Event · with Velvet Festival

4 September 2026

On 4 September we open the doors for a night with Eddie Chacon and John Carroll Kirby, presented together with Velvet Festival. It starts at 20:00 and the Space holds 150 people for it, which is the whole point of doing it here rather than in a hall. Eddie Chacon’s story runs through two very different chapters: in the early nineties he was one half of Charles & Eddie, whose “Would I Lie to You?” reached the top of the charts around the world, and then the duo effectively left the industry and for more than two decades he released nothing at all.

He returned in 2020 with Pleasure, Joy and Happiness, produced by John Carroll Kirby. Critics did not treat it as a nostalgia comeback but as one of the standout soul and R&B records of the year, and Sundown and Lay Low followed. This second run of his career has drawn more respect than the commercial peak ever did, which is rare enough to be worth seeing up close.

Kirby is with him on this tour. A pianist, composer and producer based in Los Angeles, he has worked with Frank Ocean, Solange, Steve Lacy and Harry Styles, and was nominated for a Grammy for Lacy’s “Bad Habit”. On stage the two of them work as one instrument: voice and piano, very little in between. This is the kind of evening our music programme exists for — an international artist in front of a local audience, in a Space rebuilt around the music rather than a venue the music has to fit into, the same idea behind PM Sessions and Audio Spaces.
